Just some free stuff you might like that’s on the internet. This collection is a work in progress; I will likely keep adding to this.
TTRPGs:
Mörk Borg Bare Bones EditionA TTRPG focused on a dying world.
The rules are sometimes a little too loose for my liking, but the theming, characters, and worldbuilding are really fun.
For players it’s very easy to learn, but as a GM, I often had to improvise a bit, and as of now, I do have some home rules to fill some gaps.
Feel free to ask me for my two cents if you want to run a Mörk Borg game and are unsure about some gaps.
It’s my favorite system for one-shots; making dungeons rarely takes more than an hour.
The resources for Mörk Borg are very useful, from random generators to fan-made classes and add-ons; you can find anything. And the best part is the creators encourage it. Fans made entirely new systems under the “Compatible with Mörk Borg” label. If you are interested, you might want to take a look at the homepage: Have fun
Sadly, I was never able to play the game myself yet, but I planned a one-shot for the future.
The rules are simple enough, and I like the visual inventory a lot. Playing as mice in a world where everything is enormous compared to you offers beautiful opportunities. I like it a lot.
I grew up with the Redwall animated series, so mouse characters hold a special place in my heart. I hope to play this system sooner rather than later.
Webcomics:
What Lurks Beneath by arualmeow
A story about cats in a cult. It’s the webcomic I follow the most, because I enjoy the characters and the intrigue. Take the content warnings seriously and have a good time with it. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Just be advised that it's still ongoing.
The art is gorgeous, and the worldbuilding hooked me further. Take your time with this comic and enjoy the ride.
Every other comic by Doeprince is also worth checking out.
Books:
Speculative evolution of humanity after we colonized Mars.
Definitely well known, but it’s a free book you might want to take some time to read. All Tomorrows is quite short, especially with the illustrations.
This is cheating, I know. But if you ever want to read an old classic, you might find it legally and for free on this website.
Personally, I am reading H.P. Lovecraft's short stories and The King in Yellow.
Games:
Cube Escape games:
You can find them on Steam or in app stores. Really fun escape room games you can check out if you like that genre. They focus on click-and-point gameplay and are pretty surreal. It has been quite a while since I played the game. Back then, it was not finished. But I do remember being very much into it; I was searching for something that filled a Zero Escape-shaped hole in my heart. So you might like it too, if you liked that series as well. I hope to replay it in the future and finish it.
Great game to test Magic: The Gathering decks against a bot. Has an adventure mode as well.
I like to use it while I build decks to see if they work as I hope they do.
